Text 8 Aug Flower (PS3)

I downloaded Flower from the PlayStation Network last week.  I must say, it’s really impressed me.  As simple as the concept is, it really is an enjoyable experience.  I wouldn’t really call it a game, as such, since the tasks are not particularly difficult or taxing in any sense.  It is just really relaxing and beautiful:

Your aim is to repopulate areas with flowers and bring nature back to the world, and there is something to be said for just forgetting about goals and just breezing around in such a wonderful environment.  The use of the six-axis controller to move and any button to determine the speed are really slick (I’ve played games which made this kind of user control feel like a task in and of itself), and it enhances the experience.

I’m still playing through the levels and am nearing the city within the game so I’ve yet to see how it all pans out, but whoever produced the artwork for the game did an absolutely amazing job.  It will not appeal to hardcore gamers, and I really can’t see it appealing to many men, and of course, you could just go outside and experience nature in all its glory for real, but when the weather is nasty outside, Flower brings the sun-drenched fields to you.
